CFDA Model Weight Requirements

Year after year we see stick-thin, skeletal models walking down the runway. And it seems that as the seasons go on the girls just get smaller and smaller. Ever since the "fashion parades"(fashion shows) of the 1800's it seems that the motto was the skinnier the better. Well this season someone has finally put a stop to this ridiculousness (anorexia in disguise). Recently, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) have presented the idea of a "health initiative". No this is not a permanent fix, but it is a step in the right direction. It also creates buzz and makes people aware of the epidemic that is the "model".

Back in 2007, the CFDA created a "health initiative" to raise more awareness of eating disorders within the fashion industry and among models. They wanted to change the entire aesthetic of runways, and how models were shown within campaigns and on runways. In the beginning some designers changed their belief system and their sample size, however this concept has faded into the background. And in the most recent years the sizes of models have been worse than ever. Which brings us to 2012, the CFDA most recent initiative plans to promote, create awareness, and educate people of the dangers of under eating and being underweight. This makes us pose the question, will the world of fashion as we know it become a place of normality or will it remain the harsh, brutal, cold, place of anti-eating?

Let me know what you think what the answer will be,
Arabella
