If Movies Were Fashion Collections

It is near impossible to resist the enviable wardrobes of movie characters. Hollywood characters inspire us to be better and dress better. Harry Potter's perfectly tailored school uniforms have become idolized around the world. The green and silver striped Slytherin house uniform or the red and gold striped Gryffindor house uniform is the perfect look to wear to school or a job interview. It's polished to perfection and trend setting in more ways than one.




In the new horror film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, the storyline came secondary to the costumes. The all leather looks worn by the heroines appeared as if they came straight-off the runway. The heroines came off as empowering and stylish, they are the new trend setters. What celebrities are wearing isn't nearly as exciting as what the characters are wearing.





The movies can teach us so much about life. The shopping channel released a capsule collection in collaboration with, the upcoming film, Oz: The Great and Powerful. There is a dramatic jet black feathered cape with touches of emerald, inspired by the Wicked Witch of the West. A floor-length sparkly white skirt inspired by Glinda the Good Witch balances the darker pieces. There are accessories to match, but nothing comes to close to what the characters will be wearing on-screen. Mila Kunis' wide brimmed hat and matching coat are equestrian style at best. The Wicked Witch's sleek all leather looks and Glinda's flowing dresses aren't for Halloween, they can be worn in the real world.

Picture all the glamorous costumes we will all be eyeing this spring in The Great Gatsby. If only we could own the exact fringed and beaded dresses worn by Carey Mulligan in the film. Designer collections aren't the same as a Hollywood costume design. There is more emotion in a costume design, more inspiration. If costume collections were put on the runway like designer collections, we would all live our day-to-day lives with a touch of Hollywood magic.

“Target Canada to Sell Roots”


Target, one of the US largest retail chains, is set to conquer the Canadian market this spring. Target is a household name in the US for its partnerships.The retailer recently hosted an event for a selected list of VIPs to unveil its offerings in Canada.John Marioka, the senior vice president of Target, announced the limited time partnership between Target and the famed lifestyle brand Roots. 

Roots are an iconic Canadian brand with a loyal customer base. It prides itself on its made in Canada commitment and Target is expected to hit the right note with potential customers by partnering with Roots for the launch. The Roots line will be inspired by vintage athletics and will feature national imagery and symbols synonymous with the brand, including the beaver, the Maple Leaf and the Roots logo in cursive and block lettering emblazoned on the garments                                                                                    

  The partnership is a win-win situation for both Roots and Target. Forging a partnership with Roots gives Target the luster and tacit endorsement from one of the country’s best-known independent apparel brands. On the other hand, Roots could piggy back on Target’s access to a larger audience and introduce its brand to an entirely new set of customers.
