Give a designer a new use

Open their hearts and closets”

On November 9th, Jeannie Beker and friends opened their hearts and closets for charity at the Gilda’s Club in Toronto, Ontario. And over $22,000 was donated by the hundreds who attended.

Many garments from designer shoes and handbags to suits and party dresses- many worn on red carpet events, were up for grabs at this charitable event. Fashion televisions own Jeanne Beker, donated pieces from her line EDIT and top favourites from her personal wardrobe too. Other well-known Canadian designers like David Dixon, Joeffer Caoc, Pink Tartan, NADA and Andy The-anh also donated to the 6th annual event.

All proceeds went directly to Gilda’s Club, a place that provides support to those living with cancer- be it a sister, brother, mother, father, or friends. Support groups, workshops, education and social activities are only a few of the programs Gilda’s offers. The centre was launched in 2001 and named after the late Gilda Radner, who past away from ovarian cancer in 1986.

I had heard about this event on CP24 On the morning of November 9th, and found this event to be quite moving, when you can find a designer dress for $30 and know that the proceeds are going to such a great cause- it really makes you want to max out your Visa!
