Spring 2011 Trend: The Tomboy

Say goodbye to your pointy-toed stilettos and hello to a brand new pair of motorcycle boots. This spring, tough is in and sweet is out.

Taking cues from 70’s punk bands the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and the Clash, the fashion world is returning to the grungy, punked out look.

Now I’ve never really been the tomyboy type. Sure, I like the occasional sports game and can chug a beer with the best of them but when it comes to my wardrobe I’m about as girly as they get. That being said, designers Balmain, Burberry and Balenciaga have come up with some styles that I can get on board with.

If you’re like me and aren’t sure you’re ready to fully take on this tomboy style here are a few tips on how to incorporate this hardcore look into your wardrobe:

1. Instead of your go-to pair of knee high boots, try motorcycle boots with a pair of leggings.
2. Buy a pair of distressed jeans…or better yet cut up an old pair yourself.
3. Accessorize your favourite outfits with studded jewellery or a great pair of spiked heels.
4. Pull out that leather jacket for another season and pair it with a patterned dress.
