FASHION'S NEW IT "GIRL" LEA T.

The runaway star is becoming a rising sensation on the global fashion stage. Lea T., once known as Leandro Cerezo and the son of famed Brazilian footballer Toninho Cerezo, received a roaring applause as she took to the catwalk modeling a new collection by Alexandre Herchcovitch.

Brazilian transsexual model Lea T. stole the show Sunday at Sao Paulo Fashion Week. She wore pale makeup and was accompanied by somber music as she helped present a collection of black, gray, beige and green long sleeved gowns.

The Brazilian born model left for Italy to pursue her modeling career, mainly because of poor treatment due to her transgender nature and questions about her sexual orientation. She returned home to walk in Brazil’s Fashion Week alongside Giselle Buchen, as one of the leading figures.

Lea T. who has modeled for Givenchy, has become a fashion star following high-profile appearances on the European market in recent months, including a magazine cover in which she appears kissing supermodel Kate Moss.

Other designers are hiring transsexual models; Marc Jacobs recently introduced Andrej Pejic as the face of his 2011 campaign. With the growing acceptance, skeptics are slowly coming to terms with it. The question to be asked is, if you have the talent, body and the beauty, then why not?
