“Target Canada to Sell Roots”

Target, one of the US largest retail chains, is set to conquer the Canadian market this spring. Target is a household name in the US for its partnerships. The retailer recently hosted an event for a selected list of VIPs to unveil its offerings in Canada.John Marioka, the senior vice president of Target, announced the limited time partnership between Target and the famed lifestyle brand Roots.

Roots are an iconic Canadian brand with a loyal customer base. It prides itself on its made in Canada commitment and Target is expected to hit the right note with potential customers by partnering with Roots for the launch. The Roots line will be inspired by vintage athletics and will feature national imagery and symbols synonymous with the brand, including the beaver, the Maple Leaf and the Roots logo in cursive and block lettering emblazoned on the garments

The partnership is a win-win situation for both Roots and Target. Forging a partnership with Roots gives Target the luster and tacit endorsement from one of the country’s best-known independent apparel brands. On the other hand, Roots could piggy back on Target’s access to a larger audience and introduce its brand to an entirely new set of customers.

Eco-Fashion: Microfibres and Your Laundry

Stop. Wear the same outfit 3, 4 or even 5 times. Using an outfit once then tossing it in the laundry, it’s one of the latest dangers to the environment and ourselves. For every garment made of synthetic fabrics that is washed 1900 microfibres are released.

These microfibres are washing up upon coastlines around the world. A team of researchers took samples from 18 shorelines. Dr. Browne told BBC "We found that there was no sample from around the world that did not contain pieces of micro plastic." Microfibres have made it into the food chain, which could potentially be consumed and effect humans in the long run.

That means wearing clothing multiple times in different ways is saving the environment.Another way to stop releasing plastic microfibres is to wear clothing made out of natural fibres such as wool, cotton and silk. Incorporating these two habits into your life does not need to be a painful experience.

Heres some ideas on staying chic while being environmental friendly and shopping at your favourite retailers:

American Apparel, 100% Organic Baby Rib Cross-Back Summer Dress $43.00

American Apparel carries clothing pieces that are versatile to wear and made of natural fibres. They sell many different types of basics that can be dressed up or down.

H&M Conscious Collection, Organic Cotton Top
£14.99, Tencel Trousers £24.99

H&M has a conscious collection which uses Tencel, a biodegradable fibre. Clothing made from natural fibres can also be found in their other collections. Making H&M an easy way to be green and stay on budget.

Being green is a huge trend right now. It is likely your favourite retailer would carry clothing collections that would allow you to be environmental friendly and fashion forward.
