Fragrance Notes
Warmer months bring new spring wardrobes but none can be complete without a signature scent. Many people underestimate the power of fragrances. They have the ability transform a personality. Choosing a signature scent can be extremely difficult. The key to trying out perfumes is sniffing coffee beans after trying each scent. Coffee beans neutralize one’s sense of smell so you are able to experience every note in each perfume. When trying to find the perfect fragrance always test them in the morning or afternoon when your sense of smell is at its best. A spring fragrance should be refreshing and never too powerful.
These are some of the fragrances I reviewed for Spring / Summer 2013.

Manifesto by YSL starts off with fresh green wave, bergamot, and black currant. The heart has accords of white flowers such as Sambac jasmine, and lily of the valley. The base is woody and slightly oriental and captures notes of cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, and tonka bean. It seems overly sweet when first put on but after a few minutes it warms up and the flower notes really come through. It has all day staying power.

BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir L'Eau Exquise is made of pink pomelo and fresh green almond notes in the top of the composition. The heart celebrates jasmine and white tea, laid on the wood & musky base.  It has a delicate, romantic, and fresh style. A retake on the classic, Mon Jasmin Noir, this scent is lighter and fresher for spring. It is a very pretty and feminine fragrance.

Dolce & Gabbana Rose the onea retake on D&G the one, is made softer by having a rose base instead of a mandaris & vanilla base. Notes of pink grapefruit, mandarin, peach, muguet, Bulgarian rose, peony, geranium, madonna lily, plum, ambrette seed, vanilla, amber, & musk create an elegant and classic scent. It is sexy yet soft. It does not have ideal staying power but it can be worn for day or night.

Prada Infusion d'Iris, blends orange blossom, wet-smelling iris, mandarin, vetiver, and incense for a charming, light, bright scent. This floral fragrance has a citrus scent that makes it ideal for spring and summer. It has magnificent staying power and a little goes a long way.

Vera Wang Lovestruck Floral Rush combines sparkling champagne and apricot blossom with a heart of white freesia and a base of cashmere woods, sheer musk, and white amber. This fragrance brings to mind sunsets on the beach and tropical drinks. It is a more floral and lighter version than the original Vera Wang Lovestruck. The scent is a sparkling floral bouquet fruit scented notes.

When choosing your signature scent always remember that perfumes are as complex as personalities, what works for one person may not work for you. But with hundreds of choices, there is at least one that will suit each distinct individual.

Designer Dogs

What exactly is a designer dog?

Originally, breeders crossed purebred poodles with other purebred breeds.  The purpose was to obtain a dog with the poodle’s hypoallergenic coat, and other desirable characteristics from the other purebred used.  Once designer dogs gained in popularity, other mixes were created.   A designer dog is not a breed, it is a hybrid.

Here are some types of designer dogs:
  • Schnoodle (Schnauzer and poodle cross)
  • Puggle (Pug and Beagle cross)
  • Pomapoo (Pomeranian and Toy Poodle cross)
  • Buggs (Boston Terrier and Pug cross)
  • Labradoodle (Labrador and Poodle cross)
  • Yorkipoo (Yorkie and Poodle cross)
  • Bascottie  (Basset Hound and Scottish Terrier cross)
  • Bich-poo (Bichon Frise and Poodle cross)
  • Peek-A-Pom  (Pekingese and Pomeranian cross)

Today, my designer puppy turns one year old!

Meet Ruxin, the Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Miniature Poodle).  We took Ruxin home on May 6, 2012, when he was just 8 weeks old.   He weighed 3.7lbs and I could hold him in my hand.  He had an excellent check-up with the vet, and is an office favorite.

At 1 year, he weighs 16lbs, and is more handsome than ever!

H&M for Brick Lane Brick Men's Capsule Collection

This spring, H&M will release a men’s capsule collection with East London-based custom bike shop called Brick Lane Bike. This collection is unlike any of H&M recent high profile collaboration with fashion brand like Maison Martin Margiela and Versace because this concept comes from the streets. Brick Lane Bike is an independent shop that specializes in selling fixed-gear bikes with no apparel sold in their shop. The collection was inspired by the modern urban cyclist with each piece having technical details suitable for better cycling and everyday activity. Designed by H&M designer Petter Klusell and tested by the Brick Lane Bike team, together they combine their expertise and release a collection that combines both fashion and functionality.

Feya Buchwald, the founder of Brick Lane Bikes said “This collection captures the energy and excitement of Brick Lane Bikes, along with our respect for the traditions of cycling. I love how the technical details become part of the look of each piece, while the colours bring cycling’s heritage to life. I can’t wait to see guys wearing these clothes as they ride the streets of the world”

This collection ranges from 11-pieces and is highlighted by a water-repellent rider jacket that can be worn as a backpack if it gets to hot, articulated blazers with smart stretch technology that allows movement and vintage-inspired bike jerseys made from merino wool. The entire collection is made from sustainable materials such as organic cottons and it’s part of H&M’s Conscious Vision. For full look of the collection click here to see. It will be available in H&M worldwide on March 7th in selection stores.

Google Glass Style Epidemic

Our much anticipated Google Glass is coming soon - with a predicted bang! It’s confirmed to release at the end of this year.  For those of you who are out of the loop, it’s a wearable computer that gives practically every amenity that a smart phone has. It’s like an iPhone with Siri. It functions solely through voice command. Click here to read more about what it does.

Recently we’ve been seeing a lot of fashion talk in terms of Google Glass. People are wondering if it will be a big fashion faux pas. Critics are saying it just won't work and many consumers will not like it since it is unflattering to different face shapes.

I chose to disagree. Why? Well hello - Ray-Bans, thick framed glasses - both huge trends and all the same. They don’t flatter everyone, but consumers bought it and strut it with confidence anyway. People obviously don’t care as long as something is outrageously trending. So, when something as wicked awesome as Google Glass comes along, it’s bound to be a huge success. Not to mention, in terms of aesthetics, Stylesight - a popular trend forecasting company - has predicted that a huge up rise in a futuristic trend, based off Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry.

Let’s reminisce back to the days when the population went nuts over the iPhone revolution - which by the way, still continues on to this day!

Take a look at just how amazing this is going to be. Here's a video on how it feels to use Google Glass from multiple first person perspectives.

Fashion faux pas? I say nah! Personally, I am super excited for it to come out and to see it live on the streets. I just can’t wait ‘til I can afford the $1,500 Glass.

Power, Mystery, Sophistication of Black Colour

Book called “How not to wear black”  was published back in 2011, by colour stylist Jules Standish. Author says that black colour has a negative impact on  women’s faces and their complexions; it drains energy, compound depression and hinder personal healing.

“I believe passionately that by wearing the right colours women can change their lives. Women who wear black are just trying to hide behind it.”-  says Jules Standish, well, here is a response written by girl who chose to wear black.

Black is one of the classiest, most refined, and most misunderstood colors in the spectrum. Through the ages people have venerated black as the color of spiritual power and protection - and feared it as a color of mystery and magic. The truth is that black is one of the most intriguining and powerful color

Power of black

“Black is associated with power because all vibrational energies of all colors are drawn into one place, ready to be used. Wear black when you feel the need to draw energy to yourself for reviving your strength, energy, and will.”
Tae Yun KimThe First Element: Secrets to Maximizing Your Energy

Being a color of mourning for many years in the past, black changed it's status to the color of authority and power. The association with power comes from the fact that in many countries representatives of law and authority like judges, magistrates and government officials wear black robes as a sign of the importance and seriousness of their positions. That custom began in Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries. Jurists, magistrates and certain other court officials in France began to wear long black robes during the reign of Philip IV of France, and in England from the time of Edward I. The custom spread to the cities of Italy at about the same time. The robes of judges resembled those worn by the clergy, and represented the law and authority of the King, while those of the clergy represented the law of God and authority of the church. Black implies self-control and discipline, independence and a strong will.
In Japanese culturekuro (black) is a symbol of nobility, age, and experience.

In color psychology, black means power and control, hanging on to information and things rather than giving out to others.

Black is power and control of the self and others. It creates fear and intimidation.

Mystery of black

“The man in black travels with your soul in his pocket.”

A lot  of people fear black  because of its mysterious association with
evil and darkness. In western popular culture, black has long been the traditional color of witchcraft and black magic. It explains why  in Western World today, black is often linked to secrets, magic, and mystery.

The color black has a strange charm. Black is both an absence of color as well as all colors included. For example, when night comes, which is an absence of sunlight, we perceive the sky as black in color. It  is the color of the hidden, the secretive and the unknown, creating an air of mystery. It keeps things bottled up inside, hidden from the world. Black is the unknown or the unseen. It is secretive, keeping a lot buried inside.

“Black is not sad. Bright colors are what depresses me. They’re so… empty. Black is poetic. How do you imagine a poet? In a bright yellow jacket? Probably not.”

Sophistication of black

For women's fashion, the defining moment was the invention of the simple black dress by Coco Chanel in 1926.Thereafter, a long black gown was used for formal occasions, while the simple black dress could be used for everything else. The designer Karl Lagerfeld, explaining why black was so popular, said, "Black is the color that goes with everything. If you're wearing black, you're on sure ground." Skirts have gone up and down and fashions have changed, but the black dress has not lost its position as the essential element of a woman's wardrobe. The fashion designer Christian Dior said, "elegance is a combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity," and black exemplified elegance.

The color black is often seen as a color of sophistication, as in 'the little black dress', or 'the black tie event'. Affluent and success orientated women often choose black as it can give an impression of elegance, sophistication and confidence.

Black is like no other color. It is at once sexy, refined and romantic.
Black is the ticket to sophistication.

Don’t fear  the power of black, use it wisely.

Once you look deeper into black, fascination of the mystery won't let you go.
