Tips For Summer!

By, Sharan Garcha

Summer is an excellent time for renewal, relaxation and recreation. While taking advanatge of the longer days and warm summer heat don't forget these quick tips to keep you looking and feeling great!

  • Hair Care - If you are spending time in the sun and outdoors, it is important to protect your locks. Be sure to deep condition at least once a week to avoid dry and dullness. This will also prevent brittle and split ends. To tame your waves spritz on some leave-in conditioner, this will also protect against damage from chlorine or salt water. If you are looking for an afforable natural method to high light hair, try combing lemon juice through your hair. The sun will lighten those strands faster, giving you an attractive sun-streaked look.

  • Skin Care - To obtain a sun kissed glow try your best to avoid deep-frying your skin. A high quality bronzer in a bottle is the way to go! The body Shop has a great-all natural formula. Also be sure to use sunscreen with minimum SPF 15 and stay adequately hydrated with at least 8 glasses of water a day.
  • Neutrogena SPF $8.99 available at Drugstores

  • Make Up - Take on summer with a fresh face. It's the season of "less is more". Accentuate your glow with a sheer oil free tinted moisturizer followed by a brush stroke of light shimmering powder highlighting the spots of your face the sun would hit. Try a light shimmering eye shadow in a neutral colour just under your brows and bottom eye-lid to draw attention to your eyes. Finish of your look with a nude lip colour.

Jeffrey Campbell's New Purse Collection at Little Burgundy

By Alex Svoboda

Not everyone could experience the awesomeness that was Coachella this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give in and give way to the hottest boho-chic looks that flooded the grounds of the festival. Popular designer Jeffrey Campbell has paired up with Canadian company Little Burgundy for a handbag collection that features bright colors, fringe and sweet bold patterns. Take your pick from a variety of micro cross-body bags, oversized satchels and an updated backpack that will kick any run-of-the mill knapsack to the curb. Just in time for the summer heat wave that runs over Toronto, you’ll be able to grab one or all of 3 styles when they come out starting this June, and being a huggge fan of Jeffrey Campbell, I CAN'T wait to get my own!!

The first one being: Fringe Me This, Tassel Me That! A statement piece on its own no doubt.

The second one is: Back-Packin Style! A playful and much more stylish version of the much functional and traditional back-pack.

The third design is: Micro-Crossbody bag! These micro-purses are filled with punchy colors and are good for packing only the bare essentials when out-n-about on the hot summer days.

Flatter your figure this summer

Ibum Obu

Flatter your figure this summer

With summer around the corner we all can’t wait to hit the beaches and show off. Wherever you decide to go the one important thing that will be on your mind this summer will be the swimsuit pieces you put on to accentuate that beach body of yours.

With all the latest trends for summer coming out it can be quiet a task to pick out what suits one and whether you have the hottest body or not it is still quiet imperative to pick out what works for you. Here are a few pointers to help you flatter your figure and still look trendy:

Fuller figure

  • Accentuate your curves rather than hide them. Try halter necks or cupped styles, and anything that brings in the waist to play to an hourglass shape.

Pear shape / small bust

  • Use ruffles to your advantage by adding volume at the top half to create curves. Vintage cupped styles with padding would do the trick

Top heavy

  • By adding ruffles to the bottom you balance your hips with your bust. Stick to structured styles and halter necks.

Athletic figures

  • If you're not big on the curves make the most of styles like statement strapping, backless styles and crochet that instead show off a toned physique.

From Old-School to New-School

by: Kristie Scott

"Round and Round it goes..." my fashion history teacher says once again, for what seems like the umpteenth time. Marker in hand, he emphasizes his point by scrawling and re-tracing a large set of black circles on the classroom's whiteboard. Sometimes he puts a large "$" sign right beside it.
Not that I'm complaining of boredom, I quite enjoy his discussions, but seriously, if I had a dollar for every time us fashion students heard about how fashion is a cycle, I could probably pay off ALL our student loans.
But--no matter how repetitive the statement, I have to agree it's the most basic and true fact of fashion there is.
These days especially, nothing is new, but just re-done with a new touch.
Here are just a few examples of some "modern" styles and what they were before they went "round" the block...

When? Early 1990s vs. now

What? Crop top tee and high waisted vintage floral shorts

Who? (Unknown) vs. Chloe

When? Early 1990s vs. Spring/Summer 2010

What? Allover denim

Who? the Butterick pattern company vs. Rihanna in Dolce & Gabbana

When? 1894 vs. 2009

What? Ginormously puffed-shoulder suits

Who? Designers Gilbert Adrian vs. Elie Saab

When? 1940s vs. Fall/Winter 2011

What? Angular shoulders, long sleeves, asymmetrical draping, cinched waist

Jiimmy Choo Sold To Labelux For An Estimated $800 Million

By: Finency Anggreni Setioyuwono

“Every woman should have a great open-toed platform shoe in a pale gold fabric, a chic wedge for any on-grass event, and a perfect flat shoe in a neutral colour for every day." – Tamara Mellon

On Sunday, May 22nd, Labelux, a Swiss-based privately held luxury group said that it had agreed to acquire the upscale shoe-maker and accessories company, Jimmy Choo from London-based equity firm, TowerBrook Capital.

Labelux, who also owns Bally, Derek Lam fashion house, and jeweler Solange Azagury-Partridge reportedly valued the company around 500 million – or $800 million.

“Jimmy Choo has enormous growth potential and the ability to deliver material growth synergies across our group,” Labelux Chief Executive Officer Reinhard Mieck said in the statement.

Jimmy Choo has 120 stores around the world, a number that has doubled since the TowerBrook acquisition back in 2001.

Jimmy Choo’s top management, including its founder and chief creative officer, Tamara Mellon, as well as its chief executive, Joshua Schulman, plan to remain with the company once the sale process is completed.

There's Something About Aggy

by: Kristie Scott

So I totally have a new girl crush. And its totally on the English supermodel Agyness Deyn.

Though usually peroxide-blonde, pixie-haircutted, and in her street style attire, Agyness (or Aggy for short) is an authentic chameleon. One second you may see her decked out in her oversized Clash t-shirt and black suspenders, looking all "punky" with her boy-cut spiked hair--the next you'll see her on the cover of Vogue, in an evening gown and Marilyn Monroe styled curls, encapsulating the essence of classic Hollywood glamour. What wows me is that she pulls off both...quite well, too.

But the plot to Agyness's intriguing style grows thicker. She created it by breaking all the rules, meanwhile taking the fashion world by storm. As Amanda Brooks describes, Agyness made everyone--including herself--remember how fun it is to witness a "true original."

This month Agyness appears alongside live cheetahs in an editorial entitled "White Mischief" in Vogue UK. Enjoy these beautiful shots taken by Tim Walker...
