Silence, S'il Vous Plait

I have long waited for film makers to kick talking for one set and delve into the challenge of a silent film – just for fun. No, it may not drive movie goers who demand a quick and easy storyline, loaded with punch lines and simple explanations – it takes a dollop of patience to sit through an entire silent film. But wouldn’t it be neat with today’s technology to give it a shot? Michel Hazanavicius certainly thinks so with his new film “The Artist” now out in theatres. “The Artist” is a French Romance that portrays the life of George Valentine (a super star of the silent era) as he struggles with his career being eclipsed by the debut of talking films. The movie, black and white, looks rich with beautiful and engrossing cinematics and a dramatic storyline.

My hope is that it inspires the fashion & cosmetics world (because it’s so new!) as well as new films to follow suit. Do I sound too over-stimulated over this movie? Probably. But why not be excited when something unique shines out in a sea of mass-produced and honestly, boring movies? Come on, just give it a shot, and try your patience! See where film stars shone, where their careers and hearts where broken and where new ones dawned.

Go Silence, S’il vous plait.
