Eat Your Way To a Healthy Tan

Who would've thought that indulging in food could actually give you a tan without stepping foot in the tanning salon or laying in the sun. The best ways improve your looks comes from a source that is not only more economical than most of the beauty aids out there, but it is also good for you: fruits and vegetables. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables can give you the same golden glow without the risk of skin cancer! Consuming five serving of green or orange produce a day will provide you with a tan in just a month, thanks to nutrients called carotenoids.

Researchers have found that a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, especially ones high in carotenoids (carrots, tomatoes) can give your skin a healthier glow than even time spent in sun getting bronzed.

Carotenoids are the substances that give fruits and vegetables their bright and golden skin color. They are in fact antioxidants that are thought to help clear the body of free radicals (molecules created by oxidative stress). Free radicals are believed to play role in the formation of cancer cells. Carotenoids are also believed to help boost our immune and reproductive systems.

So the next time you want to lay out in the sun and work on your tan, consider the healthy eating option, instead. Your body just may thank you in the long run!

Need shades? Do it the Gucci way!

This summer pick out your glasses with care! Designers are flocking to the idea of extending eco-friendly products to Eyewear. Haute Couture designer Gucci is one of the few to go eco-friendly with their eyewear collection set to debut this August.

Gucci has join forces with Safilo to launch a collection of eyewear. The new collection is made from innovative acetate, containing a high proportion of natural organic materials. The acetate used contains a higher percentage of natural origins compared to traditional acetate. Castor oil seeds are used as an alternative of petroleum-derived plastic which in exchange also reduces the CO2 emission in the production process.

The sunglasses and prescription frames will be available in two styles. As well, all glasses will be available in two colours which sticks to the typical tone of the Haute couture fashion house.

WAIT, theres more.... Along side the launch of Gucci's eco-sustainable eyewear collection, the package design will ALSO be affected by these changes. Gucci will present their new eco-friendly packaging, and catalogs beginning in 2012. The two brands are also working to create a new prototype made from another alternative plastic!!

The prescription frames are expected to hit Gucci stores and select retail stores in late September, while the sunglasses are expected to hit stores in October. Don't miss it!

Gareth Pugh goes commercial

With a number of successful collaborations under their belt, from Barbie, Disney, and DC Comics, MAC just announced they are now teaming up with the innovative British designer Gareth Pugh. Gareth has been edging towards the more commercial scene of things for a few seasons now but now he is doing it full force and the collection is going global. Now the idea is being put into motion. Gareth is best known for his extraordinary clothing designs and incredibly brilliant makeup looks he creates with Alex Box every season. Now he will be doing his own. The makeup collection launches in November of this year and so far, MAC isn’t spilling any details to us, saying only that it will "include multiple colour products and accessories in special packaging." So basically, like everyone they collaborate with. I can’t wait to see what I am hoping to be futuristically goth packaging and, hopefully, some show-stopping shades. I for one cannot wait for this makeup line for his style is very much what I love. The count down begins!

Summer sun is finally approaching and we need to start being proactive in incorporating sunscreen to our daily routines. Although it is advised to wear sunscreen daily, the truth is most people don’t. Prior to arriving in Canada a couple of years ago, I had heard of 1 LOVE T.O. and its goal - I was taken by its goals and the work they were doing. Finally there was an end to the abundance of "I (heart) NY" shirts that everyone in their right (and wrong) mind was wearing. Why not give it to another city?

1 LOVE T.O. started off with a close group of friends that wanted to embark upon an adventure, which would showcase the city's natural urban talents. With a line of basic tees, carrying the slogan "1 (heart) T.O." they popularized the brand throughout the world, using urban outlets throughout the blogosphere.

Soon enough the ever-so-essential Events came in, as the team supported local artists and praised their talents, by promoting them on their blog. Not only than, but 1 love T.O's own T-Rexxx recently became the host of Much Music's re-incarnated 'RapCity'.

In addition, the team supports a movement called 'Young Onez' which features Raptors' stars DeRozan, Johnson and Weems, who help the brand educate and reach out to Toronto's youth, through a variety of Basketball-oriented activities.

SUMMER HOICES FOR MEN

Though men’s fashion is much more conservative than women’s, that doesn’t mean that there is no change at all. From traditional outfits to the more audacious ones, there are plenty of opportunities for the modern man to make a fashion statement. This season, especially, clothes that men wear can be exciting and bold.

Every designer knows that classic pieces and ensembles never go out of style. As another trend of the day fades and is replaced by something else, classic wear stands the test of time. Leather jackets and trench coats are a classic combination of chic and formal that never goes out of style. Shades of beige and camel are also always current. Turtlenecks still bring the flair and keep in the warmth as they have been doing for at least a century. To bring together the complete look, wear a bowler, fedora, or even the knit ski cap (if it suits the occasion).

A classic style from the last year continuing to surge in popularity is military. Parkas in shades of grey and beige are the way to stay warm this year. Bomber jackets also remain a popular choice, and they go quite well with combat boots. Camouflage clothing is still in, and don’t worry – it won’t look out of place in a street setting.

If you are looking for an edgier, more rugged look, then the currently stylish rocker look (leather pants and a ripped t-shirt) might be up your alley. If you fancy the working man’s style, then try wearing a flannel work shirt. By coupling it with the ever-reliable blue jeans and heavy boots you will get one of the chicest looks of the season.

This year men’s fashion runs the whole gamut from classic to cutting-edge. There is sure to be a look there to appeal to men from all walks of life.

Transform Your Wardrobe For Under $10

Have some seriously outdated, old or boring pieces in your wardrobe that you just don't wear anymore? Or were you about to clean out and pack up those old clothes to send away to make room for new clothes? Or are you simply on a budget?!
No need to head to the store for this seasons new colors of pretty pastels or bold, bright colors; you can just head to your local crafts store like Michael's, and pick up some fabric dye for a much cheaper price tag to REINVENT your wardrobe from head-to-toe. Now dyeing clothes usually works best with whites, but working with light colors can definitely work as well, and knowing your color laws and the color wheel wouldn't hurt either when it comes to mixing colors. Looking at my closet right now I can definitely see some clothes that don't get much wear, and some new color just might be the answer. I think dyeing patterned clothes could have a really cool result too, so I think I'm totally going to have to experiment with this...it sounds fun! Just when I thought we had run out of places to get tattooed on our bodies or accessorize, I came across “Violent lips”, another new and creative way to accessorize. It is a temporary lip tattoo that is safe for ages 3+, vitamin enhanced and lasts 4-8 hours depending on skin type and care. The product is FDA approved, contains no animal products and is tested on supermodels, not animals. It is easy to apply and can be removed by using baby oil or mineral oil with a textured wipe. If you’re feeling adventurous, it is another creative and fun thing to try especially if you have run out of ways to be creative with your lipstick and other make-up tools.

Violent lips uses strips of different designs of your choice which you can easily just paste on your lips without any complications, giving you a temporary new look if you get bored, especially for fashionistas who want to stand out. Kicking butt and looking incredibly hot while doing it is what Charlie's Angels are all about.

From the 1970's original TV series, to the early 2000's movies, Charlie's Angels was never just watched for the suspense of cracking detective cases or girl-power inspiring action--men liked the eye-candy, while women liked the style-candy.

We can all assume things will be no different when the NEW Charlie's Angels series begins airing on ABC this fall. You can bet it will be dictating some popular future trends for fashion.

Gorgeous and stylish, I can't wait to tune in to see what the latest angels, played by Rachel Taylor, Annie Ilonzeh, and Minka Kelly, will be wearing as they save the day for Charlie.
