Top 5 Street Style Picks from Paris Fashion Week 2013

-->
As much as we all adore to see what designers have in store for us on the runways, I am always excited for what the attendees can do on the streets. Street style is all about fun and playing up with clothing accessories.

I look forward to Paris Fashion Week the most as it is the most chic city of all, of course.

Here are my top 5 street style photographs from Paris 2013.

1. Anna Dello Russo

Miss Anna Dello Russo always pushes the limits with her fashion choices and gives people an exciting reason to love the art of fashion. Here, she is rocking an oversize fedora from Saint Laurent- an essential piece for the upcoming Spring Season.

2.     Giovanna Battaglia

Giovanna Battaglia, editor of L’Uomo Vogue, is another one to dominate the streets of fashion with her distinctive look and style. She is always wearing something fresh. Her oversized and voluminious Rochas coat is simply stunning. It is an eye catching piece that is sure to turn heads.

3.     Veronika Heilbrunner and Justin O'Shea

Veronika, fashion editor for My Theresa, is wearing an Acne Studio jacket. The pair look fierce and chic. She is playing with the stripe trend and paired it perfectly with the black turtleneck underneath.

4. Leandra Medine

Leandra Medine, also known as Man Repeller (top fashion blogger) is one that I always look to for style. She is so effortless and has an edgy look. Leandra is playing it cool with her tuxedo suit underneath the multi-coloured fur jacket.

5.     Miroslava Duma

Lastly, we have the Queen of Street Style and Russian "It" girl, Miroslava Duma. She is a consistent favourite of mine on the streets of fashion. She knows exactly how to put together the most classic outfit, yet in a fun way.

Here, she is wearing a print on print (I love how the handbag is the same print as her jacket). The oversized jewelry is a great way to spice up any outfit.

French Connection

Paris Vogue in English!? Mais Oui!!

I've been a fan of Paris Vogue for years. During my formative years I attended French schools. However after high school I neither spoke or read in French very often. And then by the grace of the Conde Nast gods, I discovered Paris Vogue. It gave me everything I needed to stay fluent in French, while simultaneously transporting me to a place that I dreamed about going. Europe! France! and most of all Paris!
That was quite a while ago now though, and I'm still a devoted Paris vogue reader. I live in a city where some European magazine issues are a month behind hitting the news stands. Sometimes I've gone as far as requesting current issues from friends when they are travelling somewhere where they can get it, on time! And whatever destination I'm headed to, I surely have a copy on hand as my go to reading. In short, I'm borderline obsessed.....
In the spirit of that. I HEREBY WELCOME ENGLISH SPEAKERS TO THE WORLD OF PARIS VOGUE!
Why is it so special? you ask. Simply put: There are some things in life you didn't know you were missing until you've tried it.. And Paris vogue is one of theses things.Readers are given the opportunity to sample life through the eyes of the modern Parisienne. The fashion editorials are somehow more racy but not raunchy, the articles and their content are keeping you abreast of Europe's talented and fabulous forays into fashion and most importantly it gives you a perspective on fashion that is uniquely Paris Vogue's.
The inaugural has "darling" Kate Moss on the cover sporting her colours. A fitting entry into the Anglophile realm...N'est ce pas?
The Internet has allowed us to break down many communication barriers, and this seems to be a logical step in broadening their readership. I wonder who will be next to follow suit? Until then, I'm about to peruse the site for the very first time..... YEAH!!!

19 Vogue Editors Launch 'The Health Initiative'

'The Health Initiative' is a pact between the magazines' editors to encourage a healthier approach to body image within the industry.

The initiative is a program designed to ensure that fashion models used by Vogue are well cared for and educated in ways that will encourage and help them to take care of themselves, addressing as many of the pressing issues relating to ill-health in the industry as can realistically be tackled.

Jonathan Newhouse, chairman of Vogue publisher Condé Nast International, made the following comments: "Vogue believes that good health is beautiful. Vogue editors around the world want the magazines to reflect their commitment to the health of the models who appear on the pages and the wellbeing of their readers."

Vogue editors have made the following six-point agreement:

1. We will not knowingly work with models under the age of 16 or who appear to have an eating disorder. We will work with models who, in our view, are healthy and help to promote a healthy body image

2. We will ask agents not to knowingly send us underage girls and casting directors to check IDs when casting shoots, shows and campaigns.

3. We will help to structure mentoring programs where more mature models are able to give advice and guidance to younger girls, and we will help to raise industry-wide awareness through education, as has been integral to the Council of Fashion Designers of America Health Initiative.

4. We will encourage producers to create healthy backstage working conditions, including healthy food options and a respect for privacy. We will encourage casting agents not to keep models unreasonably late.

5. We encourage designers to consider the consequences of unrealistically small sample sizes of their clothing, which limits the range of women who can be photographed in their clothes, and encourages the use of extremely thin models.

6. We will be ambassadors for the message of healthy body image.

ADELE - Ultimately has the 'POWER'

Adele’s an extremely lucky girl!! she recently won 6 Grammy’s, ‘Album of the Year’, and got the opportunity to cover the March ‘POWER’ issue of Vogue - basically, all in the same week...this diva is unstoppable! I’m worried about her though! She has lost a LOT of weight, and had vocal surgery a few days before the Grammy’s!

Sometimes loosing significant amounts of weight, can effect your singing voice; Air travels through the vocal cords and lungs very differently, and can alter the tone/pitch of the voice. Did she lose the weight because she wanted to? Or because people like Karl Lagerfeld made her feel less attractive? I hope she’s not ruining the beautiful voice we all fell in love with, because of how she looked. Her gift is rare and should be respected, nobody has the right to judge her size except for herself.

Besides the weight loss, Grammy’s and surgery's; Adele exudes beauty, and shines through the pages of Vogue this month. Her elegance and temperamental, lady-like moments were beautifully captured, by the extremely talented: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Adele’s soothing, tear jerking sound has been greatly accepted by the majority of the world, why weren't her looks? She. Is. Gorgeous- in every way, and always was.

Make sure to pick up Vogue’s ‘POWER’ Issue, this March, for the Full Editorial and interview with Adele!!

There's Something About Aggy

by: Kristie Scott

So I totally have a new girl crush. And its totally on the English supermodel Agyness Deyn.

Though usually peroxide-blonde, pixie-haircutted, and in her street style attire, Agyness (or Aggy for short) is an authentic chameleon. One second you may see her decked out in her oversized Clash t-shirt and black suspenders, looking all "punky" with her boy-cut spiked hair--the next you'll see her on the cover of Vogue, in an evening gown and Marilyn Monroe styled curls, encapsulating the essence of classic Hollywood glamour. What wows me is that she pulls off both...quite well, too.

But the plot to Agyness's intriguing style grows thicker. She created it by breaking all the rules, meanwhile taking the fashion world by storm. As Amanda Brooks describes, Agyness made everyone--including herself--remember how fun it is to witness a "true original."

This month Agyness appears alongside live cheetahs in an editorial entitled "White Mischief" in Vogue UK. Enjoy these beautiful shots taken by Tim Walker...

Louis Vuitton Before The Future: Double Exposure

by Natalie S. Kushnir

It’s been announced, the first to pose for Louis Vuitton's new Double Exposure campaign is Sam Taylor Wood.

What is the Double Exposure campaign, you may ask...well its a extremely slow process of photographing but captures an essence we’re unable to with todays instant technology. Lauren Milligan of VOGUE tells us “The new imagery project reveals the two sides of a subject's life, photographed using the mercurial collodion process - which requires the sitter to hold a pose for 12 seconds - and filmed with their most personal belongings.”

So why does Sam Taylor Wood get the opportunity to be the first face of the Double Exposure campaign? Well for this process, it is definitely easier to work with someone who has patience.

"I like the difference between this and how speedy everything is today, including the way we take pictures. It's a beautifully slow, arduous and a painstaking process, and I like that," Taylor Wood said of the 19th Century photographic process.

Welcome Back Mr. Ford!!!

By Amanda Jazvac

The fashion world has been waiting to see what Tom Ford will bring them next….and he did not disappoint. After much speculation and expectations being set from both his lovers and haters, Tom Ford has once again brought the sex appeal and luxurious femininity that he so famously delivered most recently for the houses of Gucci and YSL. This time, however, it’s all on his terms.

He chose to show in his Madison Avenue store during New York Fashion week this past September, having women who inspire him, such as Beyonce, Julianne Moore and Stella Tennant as models. The audience was no more than 100, there was no pre or post pubilicty, and the only photographer that was shooting was Terry Richardson, who was doing so for the house of Tom Ford. There was also no release of photos for the internet, keeping the details of his line and first runway show back a secret from the masses. Until now…..

The newest issues of US Vogue, Paris Vogue, and UK Harper’s Bazaar have previews of the collection for spring/summer 2011, available on stands early this month. To see more photos, check out harpersbazaar.co.uk. Welcome back Mr. Ford…we missed you!

Alexander McQueen: A Masterpiece

The MET Celebrates the Late Fashion Designer

By: Katie Beattie

After almost a year since his passing, the late and greatly missed British Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen is being honoured by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The MET announced that its 2011 edition of its tony “Met Ball”, as Vogue’s annual Costume Institute Gala at the museum is known, has been inspired by the late designers work, who was an art collector himself, his final collection was inspired by Old Master paintings.

The gala event will be taking place on May 2nd, 2011, and an exhibition of McQueen’s work will follow, running from May 4th to July 31st, entitled “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”. A range of pieces will be included in the exhibition, from McQueen’s 1992 graduate collection from Central St. Martins, to designs created for Givenchy in the 90s, and pieces designed for the designer’s late friend, fashion icon Isabella Blow. The exhibit, “Savage Beauty” will not be arranged chronologically but around specific themes such as “The Savage Mind”, “Romantic Gothic”, “Romantic Nationalism”, “Romantic Exoticism” and “Romantic Primitivism”. The creative consultants’ for the exhibition are Sam Gainsbury and Joseph Bennett who produced many of McQueen’s runway shows.

The exhibit is expected to attract a great number of people and will be an emotional event for McQueen’s family, friends and fans. Curator of the Costume Institute, Andrew Bolton told Women’s Wear Daily, “His catwalk presentations were outstanding and straddle art and fashion. We want to get across two elements- the spectacle of the runway presentations and the beauty of his craftsmanship”.
