Seinfeld Fashion: Then and Now

As it's been said before, I'm pretty obsessed with the '90s. Of all the TV shows that came out of the era, Seinfeld is one of the most witty, "boring" (it's technically a show about nothing),  and real shows produced.
After watching re-run after re-run I have succumbed to purchasing all of the seasons.

While watching season 5 this past week, I have really noticed some of the styles of clothing have come back around the vicious cycle of fashion. Let's go through a little flashback, have some laughs and discover why I think Seinfeld is still (relatively) fashionable.

Season 5 - "The Stall" (1994)

Watch this hilarious scene!

On the right we have Elaine. On the left, Jerry's girlfriend Jane. Who do you think was being unreasonable? .....Who cares! LOOOK at those cute shoes! I've been seeing these styles EVERYWHERE and here are some of the most popular and on-trend brands I've found:

Jane
1. Messeca Arthur; $179
4. Miista Esi; $159
Elaine
6. Messeca Max; $295
8. 80%20% Quimby; $149

Have fun shopping! I know #2, 6, and 9 will find their way into my shoe closet soon.

Until next time,

A trend that I have been noticing and starting to get obsessed with courtesy of my addiction to Nasty Gal and instagram are sneaker wedges. Well that’s what I call them at least. I first saw this look on Nasty Gal’s website when they had posted a pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s on their website then Teen Vogue instagrammed a photo of Nike’s version of them. After I saw Nike’s version I became obsessed. I definitely feel like you could wear these in the summer with a t-shirt or tanks with shorts but carry them over into the fall trading in the shorts for a pair of skinny jeans and throwing on a sweater over the t-shirt and tank and you are set, because lets face it sneakers are always trendy and for a small girl like me having that bit of extra height is a definite plus. So will you be rocking this upcoming trend?

Dressing out of Context?

The suburbs is known for being family oriented, having little traffic and noise, and lower crime rate but most definitely not for the trendsetters. So what is a fashionista to do if she decides to live in the suburbs rather than the city? It’s the most cost effective alternative, but not the most socially comfortable one. At first glance one might not think it would make a big difference, but then the awkward stares become apparent.

For instance, when shopping downtown Yorkville a fashionista feels inspired and at ease. Surrounded by beautiful clothes, people and the city make you feel confident and welcome. In comparison, while shopping in Square One a fashion forward female feels self-conscious and rushed. Picture a girl with chunky gold accessories, mint green Jeffrey Campbell’s, black sheer maxi dress and salmon coloured blazer lost in a crowd of Lulumen yoga pants and UGG boots. The stares all stem from confusion, ridicule, curiosity, and some interest. Feeling out of place in the mall, the one place a girl should fit in the most is when dressing out of context is the most clear.

Suburbia needs to be shaken up when it comes to being different. The population tends to conform and is scared of trying something new. So its time to leave uncomfortable stares behind and pull out your brightest pants to flaunt!

How to Survive in Heels

Most people believe that women wearing heels on a daily basis are either a)trying too hard, b)going to fall on their face at any given moment, or c)crazy. I am here to say that those people have gotten it totally wrong. I am a heels lover, and I am not the only one who feels more comfortable wearing 5” heels over flats any day of the week. I am giving all of you ladies who are too intimidated to wear those 5” heels a quick 1,2,3 guide on How-To-Survive-In Heels.

Make sure you:

1. If not a wedge, go for a thick, chunky heel; the thicker the heel, the less likely you are to lose your balance.

2. Find a shoe with some grip on the soles, then you can walk anywhere and everywhere!

3. Ankle support is very important if you want to be able to keep up with your ladies while out and about. You can get a shoe that’s a bootie, or else something with a strap around the ankle. (see images below for examples)

See, wasn’t that easy! If you’re looking for a great pair of new shoes, make sure to follow those 3 steps, and I promise you, you won’t regret it!

Jeffrey Campbell's New Purse Collection at Little Burgundy

By Alex Svoboda

Not everyone could experience the awesomeness that was Coachella this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give in and give way to the hottest boho-chic looks that flooded the grounds of the festival. Popular designer Jeffrey Campbell has paired up with Canadian company Little Burgundy for a handbag collection that features bright colors, fringe and sweet bold patterns. Take your pick from a variety of micro cross-body bags, oversized satchels and an updated backpack that will kick any run-of-the mill knapsack to the curb. Just in time for the summer heat wave that runs over Toronto, you’ll be able to grab one or all of 3 styles when they come out starting this June, and being a huggge fan of Jeffrey Campbell, I CAN'T wait to get my own!!

The first one being: Fringe Me This, Tassel Me That! A statement piece on its own no doubt.

The second one is: Back-Packin Style! A playful and much more stylish version of the much functional and traditional back-pack.

The third design is: Micro-Crossbody bag! These micro-purses are filled with punchy colors and are good for packing only the bare essentials when out-n-about on the hot summer days.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes...

I was recently surfing the web, indulging in a little bit of online shopping, and I came across these interesting booties. I knew instantly that they had to be mine! But, the site that I was on (solestruck.com) was sold out of my size! I was heartbroken...and determined to find them! I tweeted in a desperate attempt that maybe somebody out there in cyberspace could help me track down the Jeffrey Campbell Meeker Booties--turns out a freind, of a friend, heard about my tweet and knew exactly where to direct me: http://www.shopnastygirl.com/! I was so excited and immediatly placed my order, 10 days later; they were delivered to my door step. My first pair of Jeffrey Campbell booties....these booties are not only stylish, but they are also ohh soo comfy! I am absoloutly hooked on these shoes. There are styles for every occaision; casual, sophisticated, and funky. This is going to be dangerous! (I ordered another pair just this morning shhhh..)
