Bold Brows

Seen on the runway over and over again, bold, bushy eyebrows are definitely here to stay. The look has been on every fashionista’s radar and this winter it’s popular as ever. To get this season’s must-have beauty look remember that although bold brows frame and define the eyes, they require grooming and upkeep to ensure you don’t get that “stuck in a coma for the last 10 years” look instead! If your brows are on the thinner side don’t fret, fill them in with some shadow one-to-two shades lighter then your brows for instant va-va-voom you crave!

One of the most prominent looks on the runway this season was dark lipstick. Romantic-with-a-gothic influence was seen time and time again and the makeup matched. When trying to achieve this look at home try rich berry shades and deep, dark plums. Always remember when trying this look to keep the rest of your makeup minimal to ensure your bold lips aren’t competing for attention.

Bold,Coloured Eye Liner

Coloured liner is one of the biggest trends for winter. One of the most popular ways to emulate this look is to add a thin strip of a bold jewel tone to your upper lash line, and remember a little colour goes a long way!

If the thought of bold lips and colourful eyeliner makes you squirm in your seat, then this approach to make up will be right up your alley. Minimal makeup looks made a huge statement in the campaigns for Calvin Klein where they showed off women looking beautiful and fuss free. Nothing says beauty more than a youthful fresh face that stands out on its own.

This winter a stylish hairstyle with a bit of a summer twist is on my radar:low volume hair with a sleek finish and a couple waves toward the bottom half of the hair. Two-or-three loose braids can be added to the bottom half of your hair at night and taken out in the morning will easily achieve this look.

Beyoncé Dominates Super Bowl

The Super Bowl XLVII was sure to represent a stunning performance by the one and only Beyoncé. She gave a fiery routine (which she didn’t fake this time) with all of our favorite songs including “Crazy in Love”, “Independent Women”, “Single Ladies” and ending off with “Halo”. During this Super Bowl extravaganza she showcased her partners in crime, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. They were both wearing their princess warrior outfits to fit alongside the Queen herself. Miss Queen B was seen to be wearing her knee length black socks with little booties. She also paired a black “bootylicious” body suit complemented with Chantilly lace and python piping at the sides. Leather sleeves were also added to complete the fierce look. With this style she would “rule the world” with one leg at a time and was put to the test when she supposedly shut down the power in the bowl (that’s how electrifying the show was). This delayed the start of the second half of the Super Bowl giving more time for the San Francisco 49ers to gain their advantage. And luckily enough for this style she didn’t pull a Janet Jackson and everything was kept into place. She kept this look fitting to what the performance was about and not over done like Madonna’s 2012 gladiator gold mess. Beyoncé can give thanks to New York - based designer Rubin Singer for giving her the confidence to actually “sing” her heart out this time. This was a comeback and reunion (Destiny’s Child) worth waiting for. She will now go down in history as the best Super Bowl performance yet.

The Amazing Menswear Dog

Ever since the appearance of the now infamous Ikea monkey, I've been quite obsessed with fashionably dressed animals! Although, I do feel it necessary to mention, that despite animals having survived for well over 500 million years without clothes, there is no harm in having a bit of fun! Especially if the partaker is enjoying themselves as well.

If you haven't already heard about the Menswear Dog then I suggest you check it out! It's a newly founded, creative style blog that features Bodhi the handsome Shibu Ina. The creators of the blog are graphic designer David Fung (28) and his girlfriend and fashion designer Yena Kim (26). They just launched their blog a mere eight days ago and it has already gone viral, appearing on the likes of GQ only twelve hours after their blog's soft launch.

...for 90's to come back and shine another day!

  Let's face it: the '90s is a cycle we hope fashion skips every year. That being said, some of the most creative outfits and garments were created in the '90s - or as a result of them. Being a '90s child I grew up with some of the coolest trinkets, fashions and music. Seriously though, the 90s were ten whole years of "wear whatever the hell you want" and was a time of full enthusiasm and colour.  There's nothing that we need more in this world right now than a little splash o' the '90s.

While you read and experience a blast from the past, why don't you enjoy the ear orgasm that is Much Dance '95....

I simply want to show all you fearful fashionistas that the '90s are back - for an ATTACK and who knows, maybe this time it will stick?

Plaids, stripes, argyle, plaid, polka dots, hearts all over, full-on-pattern, and more plaid is all we saw when we watched Clueless the first time. After seeing it again a couple weeks ago - I've realized that some of the Clueless '90s trends never actually died. On a side note,  I've had this outrageous urge to buy the most perfect pair of blue/green/yellow plaid high waisted pants and jacket for 6 months now and I'm sure it's because I subconsciously knew this era was coming back to "haunt" us. However, I still haven't found these pieces so if any of you know where I can find these PLEASE PLEASE let me know! 

Now that's been discussed, we can get back to business. Wildfox Couture has just recently come out with a new collection that is strictly inspired by Cher and her pals. When using Clueless for style inspiration remember the following three key items:

- some sort of all-over pattern on at least 1-2 garments

- a good chunky-heeled platform shoe (try this in a bold solid colour to offset the patterns)

- knee highs/thigh highs are almost mandatory - play off the colours that are used in the patterned garment

Follow these and you should be like, totally hot.

If Movies Were Fashion Collections

It is near impossible to resist the enviable wardrobes of movie characters. Hollywood characters inspire us to be better and dress better. Harry Potter's perfectly tailored school uniforms have become idolized around the world. The green and silver striped Slytherin house uniform or the red and gold striped Gryffindor house uniform is the perfect look to wear to school or a job interview. It's polished to perfection and trend setting in more ways than one.

In the new horror film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, the storyline came secondary to the costumes. The all leather looks worn by the heroines appeared as if they came straight-off the runway. The heroines came off as empowering and stylish, they are the new trend setters. What celebrities are wearing isn't nearly as exciting as what the characters are wearing.

The movies can teach us so much about life. The shopping channel released a capsule collection in collaboration with, the upcoming film, Oz: The Great and Powerful. There is a dramatic jet black feathered cape with touches of emerald, inspired by the Wicked Witch of the West. A floor-length sparkly white skirt inspired by Glinda the Good Witch balances the darker pieces. There are accessories to match, but nothing comes to close to what the characters will be wearing on-screen. Mila Kunis' wide brimmed hat and matching coat are equestrian style at best. The Wicked Witch's sleek all leather looks and Glinda's flowing dresses aren't for Halloween, they can be worn in the real world.

Picture all the glamorous costumes we will all be eyeing this spring in The Great Gatsby. If only we could own the exact fringed and beaded dresses worn by Carey Mulligan in the film. Designer collections aren't the same as a Hollywood costume design. There is more emotion in a costume design, more inspiration. If costume collections were put on the runway like designer collections, we would all live our day-to-day lives with a touch of Hollywood magic.

“Target Canada to Sell Roots”

Target, one of the US largest retail chains, is set to conquer the Canadian market this spring. Target is a household name in the US for its partnerships.The retailer recently hosted an event for a selected list of VIPs to unveil its offerings in Canada.John Marioka, the senior vice president of Target, announced the limited time partnership between Target and the famed lifestyle brand Roots. 

Roots are an iconic Canadian brand with a loyal customer base. It prides itself on its made in Canada commitment and Target is expected to hit the right note with potential customers by partnering with Roots for the launch. The Roots line will be inspired by vintage athletics and will feature national imagery and symbols synonymous with the brand, including the beaver, the Maple Leaf and the Roots logo in cursive and block lettering emblazoned on the garments                                                                                    

  The partnership is a win-win situation for both Roots and Target. Forging a partnership with Roots gives Target the luster and tacit endorsement from one of the country’s best-known independent apparel brands. On the other hand, Roots could piggy back on Target’s access to a larger audience and introduce its brand to an entirely new set of customers.
