We all know the new season of X Factor has a number of singing talents taking the stage each week, but let’s look on the other end of it all - the judges. Which female host/mentor is winning the hearts of all fashion lovers watching at home? Can Britney Spears or Demi Lovato make these outfits from the runways look just as fabulous off the runways? You be the judge!

Today marks the day that the Mary Katrantzou collaboration with Topshop hits the Yorkdale Shopping Centre! The Fall/Winter 2012 Mary Katrantzou collection was a highly anticipated show seen at the most previous London fashion week.

Mary Katrantzou has been working with Topshop through the

NewGen 10 Tees line, which supports up and coming British designers (the Yorkdale location now has limited edition NewGen 10 Tees in-store, too!)

Now, she is one of Britains hottest, young designers. This S/S 12 collection is how she says THANK-YOU to Topshop for supporting her on her road to success!

The collection released today in the one location across Canada features her inventive use of patterns, exciting floral prints, and abstract appliqués. While her designs aren't made entirely for the mass market, they are truly exclusive and are sure to be snagged by the fashionistas spring wardrobe!

There are a select few items still available for purchase through the Topshop website, however the Canadian website will not be selling the Mary Katrantzou collection or the NewGen 10 tees. (thebay.com/topshop)

Here come the British!!

There is no doubt that British fashion has always had an impact on the rest of the world, dating back to the 1960’s Mod invasion, and later with the grunge and punk movements. The past year has been their biggest yet however, and the groundwork laid promises no near end in sight.

The British Fashion Awards 2010, hosted at London’s Savoy Hotel and Theatre last night, drew its biggest crowd yet in honoring the most important and influential fashion icons of the past year. Winners included Alexa Chung for British Style, Phoebe Philo (for Céline) as Designer of the Year, and Burberry for the Digital Innovation award.

Special recognition went to the late Alexander McQueen as Sarah Burton, assistant to McQueen for the last 15 years of his life, accepted the award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion on his behalf. Also acknowledged were Naomi Campbell, as one of the greatest contributors to British fashion over the last 25 years, and Nicola Formichetti for the Isabella Blow award for Fashion Creator.

For those in the North American fashion industry, the British are becoming and holding their place as ‘household names’; for those not in the know, newer fashion phenomena such as Topshop are sure to command their attention. No matter what angle you look at it from, not only are the British here to stay, but they have proven to provide a consistent supply of fresh and innovative talent. I think it best to be wide-eyed and ready for what they’ll bring us next.

Newest Fast-Fashion Break-up: Kate Moss and Topshop to split ways?!?!

After designing for UK based retailer Topshop for the past 3 years, Kate Moss recently unveiled her newest, and now last, full clothing collection. Spending just six minutes at the launch, where people had lined up for hours to see her, Moss has left her fans wondering what has happened, and whether Topshop will be Kateless for good.

Despite rumours surfacing of relationship problems between Sir Phillip Green (Topshop owner) and Miss Kate, statements have been made that the split is amicable and serves both parties well. For a fast-fashion store, primary goals are to stay trendy, be consistent and keep consumers engaged. After 13 collections, maybe Topshop is planning on bringing on a new face of fashion or budding designer in lieu of repetitive pieces and declining sales.

Kate, on the other hand, is experiencing no shortage of work. She is currently enjoying opportunities with luxury brands such as David Yurman and Longchamp to name a couple. Not to mention her statement of wanting to “explore other ventures”. This leaves us begging the question of what the uber-trendy, self-styled model will bring us next. ….

For all of you die-hard Kate fans, I won’t leave you hanging. Sources say she will stay on as a part of the Topshop family, possibly producing two capsule collections a year, each comprised of about twelve pieces. They may be of a new nature however…vintage?? Cashmere??

I guess we will have to wait and see what our darling Kate will do next.
